Being behind the scenes at one of the greatest events in the world of rodeo is a personal highlight and one of the most unforgettable opportunities that has presented itself to me. The experience from behind the scenes gives a whole new perspective; a surge of exciting anticipation, for the animal athlete and all that watch and run the show.

This is a sacred place of preparation for the rider, the animal and the livestock contractors. High intensity for all peaks just before the gate is pulled. This privileged access of watching these incredible athletes prepare, persevere, thrive and fight has been inspiring.

I was first introduced to Pendleton® Whisky in the spring of 2009 while I was learning about the National Sponsors for the PRCA at my hometown rodeo, the DNCFR in Pocatello, Idaho. I was in the process of competing for my first rodeo queen title! The first time I actually experienced drinking Pendleton® Whisky was during the summer month of August 2012 at the 2011 PRCA Wilderness Circuit Large “Rodeo of the Year:” the Gooding Pro Rodeo, located in Gooding, Idaho.

I remember my first experience well because, not only was I enjoying a sport I hold dear to my heart, but I had the privilege of meeting my first Posse member who wrapped a Pendleton® Whisky bandana on my arm. I was with a friend of mine, JD, who was well educated in the form of drinking Pendleton® Whisky and he made sure I enjoyed my first taste in the proper fashion – a straight Pendleton® Whisky shot. I was a bit unsure of how this straight shot was going to treat me: belly burn, bad aftertaste, shivers? But I wasn’t one to back down from a challenge! I took on this newfound, mystifying shot with JD, as well as a few extra people from our group, and the ending result… absolute satisfaction! I enjoyed it so much that I made sure JD purchased Pendleton® Whisky for me the rest of the night!

From that day forth, Pendleton® Whisky is the only whisky I drink. Thanks JD, Gooding Pro Rodeo, and Pendleton® Whisky for a night of firsts, friends, and forever continued traditions!
