Pendleton Old Fashioned Whiskey Cocktail

1910 OLD FASHIONED

Whiskey aficionados love to drink an old fashioned, so it’s always the number one recipe on a whiskey cocktails list. You can’t mess with perfection!

GLASSWARE: Rocks Glass
TOOLS: Muddler

INGREDIENTS:

METHOD:

  1. Place sugar cube in the bottom of the glass
  2. Add bitters and Pendleton® Whisky 1910 Rye
  3. Muddle ingredients together
  4. Add a single large clear ice cube
  5. Top with a splash of club soda or water (to taste)
  6. Garnish with an orange twist and cherry

PRO TIPS:

  • If you are making several drinks, line up all the glassware and prep with steps 1 and 2 until ready to mix.
  • Make clear ice ahead of time and store in an air-tight container in the freezer. We love clear ice because it turns your whiskey cocktail recipes into “wow” moments!
  • Make it Canadian: Substitute Pendleton® Whisky Midnight and use ½ oz of maple syrup instead of the sugar cube.
  • Use good quality cherries (not garden-variety maraschinos). Luxardo, Amarena, Fabri, or artisanal bourbon cherries are best.
Pendleton Paloma Whiskey Cocktail

Pendleton® Paloma

Move over tequila! Fresh squeezed ruby red grapefruit juice is the perfect foil for the warm, spicy splendor of Pendleton® Whisky Original.

GLASSWARE: Rocks Glass
TOOLS: Cocktail Shaker

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1.5 oz Pendleton® Whisky Original
  • ¾ oz Freshly Squeezed Grapefruit Juice (or good quality store-bought grapefruit juice)
  • ½ oz Simple Syrup
  • 2 Dashes of Orange Bitters
  • Grapefruit Peel for Garnish

METHOD:

  1. Fill a rocks glass with ice to the brim, then into a cocktail shaker
  2. Add all ingredients (except for garnish) to the shaker
  3. Shake vigorously until very cold
  4. Pour all into rocks glass

PRO TIPS:

  • Scrape the pith (pulpy inside) from the inside of your citrus peel for a cleaner appearance.
  • Twist the citrus peel and rub around the glass rim to give each sip a hint of grapefruit.
  • Use good quality bitters and play around with flavors. Try Bittermens Hopped Grapefruit or Bittercube Jamaican #1. Delicious!
  • Avoid bitters that use a glycerin base. They may be cheaper, but they’re not nearly as good.
Pendleton Rodeo Mary Whiskey Cocktail

Of all the whiskey drinks recipes you’ve tried, you may not have considered a whiskey Mary. We guarantee that once you’ve tried it, you won’t soon forget how its sweet warmth marries (no pun intended) with the savory salty Mary mix.

GLASSWARE: Highball
TOOLS: Cocktail Shaker

INGREDIENTS:

METHOD:

  1. Fill your glass with ice
  2. Add ingredients
  3. “Roll” back and forth between glass and cocktail shaker to blend
  4. Garnish with salt, pepper, olives, pickles, and a lemon or lime wedge

PRO TIPS:

  • Get creative with your own Bloody Mary mix:
    • Tomato juice
    • Worcestershire sauce
    • Tabasco sauce (to your taste)
    • Olive brine
    • Grated Horseradish (not the creamy stuff)
    • Freshly squeezed lemon juice
    • Fresh cracked black pepper
    • Smoked sea salt
    • Celery salt
    • Dash of chipotle
  • Combine all ingredients in a pitcher. Taste frequently until you achieve the flavor you like. Don’t overdo the chipotle – a little goes a long way!
  • Rim the glass with smoked salt. Rub a wedge of lime or lemon over half the rim and dip it into your salt mixture. Celery salt is a great rim choice, too!
